PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — October 27, 2026. Placer County announced a $700,000 Caltrans grant supporting its Tahoe City Downtown Access Improvements Project, advancing plans for a Grove Street parking expansion and new walking and bicycling connections.
How the project or program works
The county says the project is fully funded with Caltrans money and local Transient Occupancy Tax/Tourism Business Improvement District investment. The Grove Street parking lot is proposed to grow from 47 regular spaces to 69 regular spaces plus three accessible spaces. Planned features include eight electric vehicle charging stations, safety lighting, two loading areas, drainage improvements and roughly one-half mile of Class I multiuse trail. Construction is scheduled for summer 2027.
What residents should verify
The original announcement was October 8, 2026, not October 27. The $700,000 is a grant contribution and the project also uses local funds; it is not the full project budget. The new spaces and trail do not exist yet, and construction dates may change.
